Classroom Expectations - Our Promise
All of the students in our class have discussed and created our Class Learning Expectations. Students have promised to:
After much class discussion, and students creating a long list of classroom rules, we narrowed down class expectations under 3 main expectations:
1.Be respectful
2. Be responsible 3.Be safe
1.Be respectful
2. Be responsible 3.Be safe
Tool Handbook
We have also created a “Tools Manual” which provides guidelines for how to care for and use materials in our classroom.
When a student does not choose to follow classroom expectations, he or she is asked to “take a break” (an area in our classroom away from the group). When students are ready to join the group after the "break", they join the group and follow classroom expectations. Continuous “breaks” will result in a conference with the teacher. If problems persist, a parent conference will be set up.
Teams
Students sit in small “teams”. Students earn “team points” for being active listeners, focused, ready to work, etc. Teams who earn the most points at the end of the week, get to pick out of a prize box and these students will get bonus points added to their Dojo points. Teams (seating arrangements) change monthly so that students will have the opportunity to work with and develop friendships with all of their classmates many times throughout the school year.
VIP
One student will be chosen (randomly) each week to be our class Very Important Person. When your child is chosen, please help your child fill out the VIP poster. Your child may bring photos to school, his/ her favorite book, any special toy or special trinkets or mementos, or anything special to his or her family or culture. We want to celebrate your child and learn more about this special member of our class.
This is the only time toys will be allowed to come to school in Second Grade. |
